Arlene Thress said in an email 24Sep03:
I am Arlene Thress Koetje, daughter of Arthur Thress who was Laurena's brother.
Greg who is my brother's son passed your E-mail etc along to me. I do have some information and a family picture of Otto and Mary with the children.
Right now we are at our beach house on Whidbey Island in Washington State. When we return home I will gather up some things and send them to you.
Otto's daughter Corrine sent me an E-mail some time ago as her son Bernie is interested in the family tree. I don't have his address but will contact her so you might exchange things.
Mary Hill Thress' mother died when she was about two and she was given to another family to raise. No one knows what happened to her father although my grandfather tried very hard to find him. So we also know nothing about her mother. Mary was thought to be Scotch Irish and was very near sighted. She died at age 56 before I was born which was 1936. My mother whose name was also Jeannette Amdahl Thress said that she was very quiet and had her feelings hurt easily.
We have three children; Todd who teaches Anthropology at Western Washington Unversity, Brad who is an Engineer Consultant ( Brad and his wife Andrea lived in Chapel Hill until June when they moved to LA) and Jeanne who is a Civil Engineer and lives in Bellvue, WA.
Arnold's children live in the Seattle area but we have little contact.
I met your grandmother only once when I was a child and she visited us in Richland, WA.
We have always wondered what happened to your aunt Pam. She must be near my age, but no one except Arnold ever knew when she was living. He seemed to think that she had some terminal illness and died.
I do have addresses of the German group. My mom and dad visited them once and my mom and Todd visited them also. Our daughter was going to school in Italy and was visiting relatives in Norway etc after the semester so I wrote to Helle, Werner's wife. They were going to be vacationing in Italy during the time Jeanne could visit so that didn't work out. Both Helle and Werner may be dead now but they had the orignal Thress home that was at one time a mill but is now a power plant so their children may still be at the address. My mother said that it was a beautiful home with marble floors and appartments for the children.
Your website was very interesting. You have the same picture of Otto Thress senior with the pipe that I have. My neice Randena, who is deceased, looks quite a bit like your grandmother and her daughter whom Greg adopted looks very much like her. There were some pictures on the website of the Thress' and one of the men looked very much like my brother, Omar Milton Arnold, who is also deceased.
