Laurena's birth certificate says that Otto was born in Germany in 1878.
Email from Bernie. My great grandfather is Otto Thress Sr. who was born in Bad Kreuznach, came to the U.S. in 1897 and married Mary Hill in Chicago in 1899. In 1904 he moved to North Dakota (to a homestead outside New England N.D.). He has three daughters: Mildred Ungerecht, Francis Wettleson, and Laurena Gress; and four sons: George, Arthur, Arnold and my grandfather Otto Jr.
By all accounts, a great guy. Arlene Thress told a story where Otto intervened on behalf of one of the town's telephone operators to get her a pay raise. Wouldn't take anything in return. |
