| 1 | June 1893 Sailed for America with 7 surviving children. Katherine seasick so she made a pacifyer of bread and sugar to keep Raphael alive. Arrived in Richardton July1893 with $40. Peter found a spot to build a sod house, loacted 5 miles N of Richardtone, Range 92, Section 8, Township 140 and put a claim in for a pond. Rose was born in the sod hut. Peter started working for the railroad at 50cents/day. Children helped build the sod house. They built a larger home wihen John was born. Famly had a few sheep, cattle, hogs and horses for polowing and hauling. Katherine had a few chickens and geese. Pond was duged, filling by springs and had a manure bridge (earthen damn filled with manure, water seeps thru righ with nutirients) above a vine garden. Had pumpkins as large as wosh tubs. Everyone went to Hly Mass on Sunday. Tony born 1899, Annie 1901. Kathryn 1903. Pond suppplied ice for ice cellars and refiregerators. 1904 Monica left for Benedictines at Sacred Heart Convent in Yankton SD to become a nun (have photo). Katherine's brother Raphael was a priest. 1911 Peter bought the house owned by Genevieve Hammerschmidt and moved into town. Buried at ST. Mary's, Richardton Tom Lini: Petrus married Catherina in Landau, but then moved to Schoenfeld. He has them leaving the Ukraine in Jul93. |
